چکیده

wireless, radio, MAC, protocol, 802.11 This paper studies the impact of common interferers found in unlicensed bands on 802.11 and other CSMA systems. First, we describe those interferers and the MAC techniques used to combat them. Then, we present Fragment Adaptive Reduction, a scheme to overcome the effect of non CSMA repetitive interferers, and it's implementation in the SWAP protocol. We also describe a simple model of domestic microwave oven interferences. We finish by some exhaustive simulations of the impact of microwave oven and other interferers on 802.11, which illustrate the benefits of the Fragment Reduction scheme.

Listen Before Receive for Coexistence in Unlicensed mmWave Bands

Listen-Before-Talk (LBT) has been adopted as the spectrum sharing technique that guarantees a fair LTE/Wi-Fi coexistence in the unlicensed spectrum at the 5 GHz band. Differently, at mmWave bands, where beamforming is a must to overcome propagation limits, LBT scope becomes limited because the interference layout changes due to the directionality of transmissions. In this regard, this paper pro...

The Future is Unlicensed: Coexistence in the Unlicensed Bands for 5G Networks

5G has to fulfill the requirements of ultra-dense, scalable, and customizable networks such as IoT while increasing spectrum and energy efficiency. Given the diversity of envisaged applications and scenarios, one crucial property for 5G New Radio (NR) is flexibility: flexible UL/DL allocation, bandwidths, or scalable transmission time interval, and most importantly operation at different freque...

Efficient Channel Allocation Schemes for Cognitive Radio Networks

In today’s wireless scenario, most of the spectrums (licensed bands) are already allocated for license users for exclusive use. Few unlicensed bands are left open for unlicensed users, i.e. ISM bands 900MHz and 2.4GHz. Licensed bands are under-utilized but unlicensed bands are crowded resulting on spectrum scarcity. Solution is to let unlicensed users use the license frequencies, provided they ...

Towards Harmonious Coexistence in the Unlicensed Spectrum: Rational Cooperation of Operators

5G New Radio (NR) operating in the unlicensed spectrum is accelerating the Fourth Industrial Revolution by supporting Internet of Things (IoT) networks or Industrial IoT deployments. Specifically, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) is looking to achieve spectrum integration through coexistence with multi-radio access technology (RAT) systems in the same unlicensed bands with both licensed-assisted and stand-...

A Cognitive Radio Approach for Usage of Virtual Unlicensed Spectrum

While essentially all of the frequency spectrum is allocated to different applications, observations provide evidence that usage of the spectrum is actually quite limited, particularly in bands above 3 GHz. In this paper we present a Cognitive Radio approach for usage of Virtual Unlicensed Spectrum (CORVUS), a vision of a Cognitive Radio (CR) based approach that uses allocated spectrum in a opp...
